I bought these to replace 50 watt flood halogen bulbs.
Here are the pros:1) the color is almost indistinguishable from the halogen (I got the 3000k) at full brightness.
2) these have excellent dimming capability, however that seems to be dependent on the fixture and or switch you use. In one location I used some IC HALO cans from homedepot and lutron diva dimmer and in another I used generic IC cans and a lutron maestro dimmer. The HALO cans had trouble dimming to low levels like the generic cans. The maestro dimmer was able to get the led bulbs dimmer than the halogen bulbs.
3) I could not tell the difference in color rendering between the halogen and these bulbs and I take that as a good thing.
4) brightness is about on par as a brand new halogen bulb, maybe slightly dimmer. However, halogen bulbs degrade over time and compared to my two year old halogen bulbs these were much brighter.
Cons
1) unfortunately despite being "wide angle" flood bulbs, their angle of throw just can't compete with the halogen flood bulbs.
2) these bulbs do suffer from a slight delay when turning them on. It's especially noticeable when the bulbs have been off for awhile. However if you turn the lights off and then back on there is very little delay.
3) this is a minor quibble...the bulb lens is smooth which means installing them in a recessed light can be difficult. If the manufacture could add two tabs to the top of the bulb to help rotate the bulb in the can with your fingers.
Other.
This could be a pro or con depending on personal opinion and application. When the bulbs dim they maintain their color, unlike a halogen bulb that begins to turn orange when dimmed.
A wide angle throw seems to be a limitation all led manufactures face as I have yet to find a bulb that has all the pros of this bulb but with a wider angle.
For the price, these bulbs are just a tad more expensive than their halogen counterparts however, they will last much, much longer (or so I assume). I'll update the review if bulb life becomes an issue (I purchased 12).
Photos show the halogen bulbs first then the led. The bulb above the TV is the one we are looking at in the first two pics.
