LED Tube Light Solutions Retrofitted my whole office
I bought 8 of these LED Tube lights on ht-lights Company before deciding to retrofit my entire office with these. I have some wisdom to share in my experience. Having an office with over 250 T12 tube lights with ballasts that are going out and/or melting down I decided that something had to be done. I decided to trial a couple 4 packs of these bulbs to see how easy the process was to convert and also to see how the light compared. I went with the 5000K clear bulbs with dual ended power. Here is my advice:
1) If you are doing several fixtures, try calling HT-lights directly. I got the price down to $10 per tube with free shipping through them directly.
2) Get the rotatable tube lights, even if you think you'll be happy with the fixed ones, you may find that you will want to angle some of them. That said, the angle of the beam is quite comparable to a T12 tube lights.
3) Get push-in wire connectors!! I use both the 4 and 6 port connectors for cutting the ballasts out. It saves so much ridiculous time.
4) Cut out the darn ballast, it's so stinkin easy my grandma could do it. Get over the fear and just do it. If you have T12 you HAVE to bypass the ballast. If you have T8 they MIGHT work. IF they work, then the ballast will still burn electricity and eventually burn out anyways.
5) If you are putting the lights in an area where you or someone will be face up looking at them, then get the frosted ones for that application. My wife is a dentist and I am a chiropractor so I put the frosted rotatable tubes in our treatment areas. The clear ones are a bit harsh to stare directly at... however, the frosted ones are easy to look up and light up the room just as much as the clear ones, or so it seems.
6) Look into rebates with your electric utility company. I am getting back $6 per tube from my utility company for my office, so net price is only $4 per tube!
7) If you are unsure about what color to get, just order a pack of each and decide in person. In my experience, the 5000K is great for the office!
The 4000K tubes I had before were obviously more yellow, but next to the 5000K it almost seemed like the fluorescent-lit rooms were dirty.
The 5000K is a "clean" light. If you are putting these in a home I'd probably recommend the frosted ones as with the clear you can see the LED 'dots' through the lens.
The frosted ones are smoothly lit just like a fluorescent bulb. The rotatable frosted ones are not on ht-lights Company (yet - 8/14/16 date of review) but are available directly from HT-lights.
So far I am satisfied with the product. At the time of my order, HT-lights has been going through a software transition which has delayed shipment of my order.
However, I will say that their customer service is exceptional. Since the first batch of bulbs I got from ht-lights Company were all defective, I called them up, I sent them pictures of how I had it wired, they shipped me out new bulbs and new tombstones immediately.
It almost seems as though the ht-lights Company warehouse doesn't treat these as fragile or something because the defect rate in bulbs directly from HT-lights in my experience is about 1 in 20.
From ht-lights Company warehouse it's more like 5 in 20 are bad. Hope this review is helpful!
